Free Web Conference on Data Center Design -- November 18th

Designing Fiber Structured Cabling Systems for the Data Center

Arlington, Va., November 10, 2005: The Fiber Optics LAN Section (FOLS) of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is hosting a free Web conference to help users understand how to design a standards-compliant structured cabling system for Data Centers and Storage Area Networks (SANs). The Web conference will take place on Friday, November 18th from 2:00-3:30 p.m. EST. Register on-line at: http://www.fols.org/news/Nov05WebConf.cfm.

The need for robust structured cabling systems is higher than ever before. Enterprises now must deal with both 50%-plus yearly data growth and often must comply with legislation and regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). During the Web conference our presenter, past FOLS Chair John Struhar will provide an introduction to the new TIA-942 Data Center Standard and discuss strategies and solutions for designing efficient and cost effective structured cabling solutions for Data Centers. There will be time for Q&A at the end.

The conference has both web-based and audio components. The Web site login to view our presentation and the call-in number to hear the audio portion will both be provided as a PDF attachment immediately after your register.

TIA's FOLS is a consortium of leading fiber optic cable, component and electronics manufacturers. The FOLS focuses on educating end users and influencers about the technical advantages and affordability that optical transmission brings to local area networks and fiber-to-the-desk applications. Member companies of the FOLS include 3M, ADC, Berk-Tek, a Nexans Company, CommScope, Corning, Corning Cable Systems, Leviton Voice & Data, OFS, Ortronics, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave, TT electronics/OPTEK and Tyco Electronics. Cost Model

Hierarchical Star, Centralized Cabling or Fiber-to-the-Telecom Enclosure -- which architecture is best for your installation?

Find out with the FOLS Cost Model.

This interactive cost model is a tool that helps you compare the installed first costs of several standards-compliant architectures using fiber and copper cabling. The Cost Model lets you input your own data to most accurately allow you to compare different media choices.
