FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 05, 2011
Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (www.sumitomoelectric.com), a leader in fiber optic product manufacturing announced today the availability of the industry’s first fixed V-groove fusion splicer with a dual heating system. The built-in dual heating system of the Type-46 TomCat® plus fusion splicer improves splicing efficiency and productivity by 70%.
The splicer’s advanced electronic design, which accommodates a built-in dual heating system and simultaneous operation, streamlines the splicing process and reduces the bottle neck of “heater wait time” by 88%, making it the fastest V-groove splicer on the market. With a typical heater cycle time of only 40 seconds and splice cycle of only 14 seconds, TomCat plus speeds deployment and reduces labor time and costs.
By incorporating passive diameter alignment splicing technology, TomCat plus yields the repeatable and consistent low loss results required for the increased reliability and performance for today’s data center, enterprise network, outside plant, structured cabling, and FTTx applications. Designed for portability, user-friendliness, precision, and speed — without foregoing affordability? the TomCat plus also features automatic heater and splice start functions, a 5.6 inch adjustable monitor, internal memory for up to 2,0000 splicing points, and adjustable battery-saving settings.
“As the first company to have innovated and introduced simultaneous dual-heater operation technology to the industry, we are pleased to launch yet another dual-heater splicer that further improves efficiency and lowers deployment costs for our customers," comments Joshua Seawell, Sumitomo’s product manager for its Lightwave Network Products division.
The RoHS compliant Type-46 TomCat plus joins Sumitomo’s Type-25e TomCat handhelds and Type-39 FastCat splicer that can be used with the Lynx2 CustomFit Splice-On Connector for on-site customized field terminations.
