Tyco Electronics Introduces LC Version of the AMP NETCONNECT LightCrimp Plus Fiber Optic Connector

No-epoxy/no-polish connectors ideal for premises cabling termination applications

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- August 30, 2004 Tyco Electronics introduces the new AMP NETCONNECT LightCrimp Plus LC fiber optic connectors. These connectors complement the existing line of quality LightCrimp Plus connectors that have been very popular for several years. These no-epoxy/no-polish connectors feature a factory-polished ferrule, enabling installers to terminate fiber in three easy steps: strip the cable, cleave the fiber and crimp the connector. The AMP NETCONNECT LightCrimp Plus family of connectors are ideal for direct termination in premises applications, such as at patch panels and wall outlets, and trunk cabling for either backbone or horizontal cabling.

The introduction of the AMP NETCONNECT LightCrimp Plus LC connectors completes the entire family of LightCrimp Plus connector products, noted Herb Congdon, director, fiber systems marketing for Tyco Electronics. The increasing popularity of multimode and single-mode small form factor connectors has emphasized the advantages of offering MT-RJ and LC connectors and related products in addition to the SC and ST-Style connector products. The addition of the pre-polished, single-mode and multimode LightCrimp Plus LC connectors eliminates the need for manual polishing of LC ferrules and makes LC termination and installation faster for the installer. Like the AMP NETCONNECT LightCrimp Plus SC and ST-Style connectors, the LC design uses simple and reliable Tyco Electronics crimping technology, eliminating the need for epoxy, curing ovens, heat or power to achieve a high-quality connection. Because the installation procedure for all LightCrimp Plus products is the same, we expect installers to quickly add the LC connectors to their choices for terminations in optical fiber networks.

AMP NETCONNECT LightCrimp Plus connectors deliver robust and stable performance over time, meeting the relevant TIA/EIA, IEC, CECC and EN standards, and can withstand temperatures ranging from -10 C to 60 C. Tyco Electronics offers a full range of upgrade termination kits for existing LightCrimp connector users and adaptive tool kits for owners of tool kits sold by other manufacturers for use with their pre-polished connectors.

To minimize the installation training required, a complete instructional CD-Rom is provided with every tool kit.
