The Fiber Optics LAN Section of the Telecommunications Industry Association has announced a new roster of officers for 1998. Now starting its fifth year, the Fiber Optics LAN Section is dedicated to educating users about the benefits that glass optical fiber can bring to Local Area Networks and horizontal cabling, and serves as a resource for users who would like to learn more about the benefits and application of this medium.
The new officers are as follows:
Section Chair: Allen Dixon, Siecor Corporation
Section Vice Chair: Atikem Haile-Mariam, Corning Incorporated
Chair, Communications Subcommittee: Lynda Price, Lucent Technologies
Vice Chair, Communications Subcommittee: Tom Stammely, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave
Chair, Membership Committee: John Struhar, Lucent Technologies
Vice Chair, Membership Subcommittee: Vince Ricco, Allied Teleysn International
Chair, Standards Subcommittee: Tony Beam, AMP
Vice Chair, Standards Subcommittee: Steve Stange, Transition Networks
"The Fiber Optics LAN Section plays an important role in the industry by making information available that helps users interpret and influence standards and better understand the role that glass optical fiber can play in their LAN extending beyond the backbone and riser and into the horizontal," said Allen Dixon. "As a group, we offer a well-rounded window into the deployment of optical fiber as our members represent a wide range of the components used in a network, including manufacturers of LAN electronics, fiber, cable and apparatus.
"Working together we share the common goal of growing the market for glass optical fiber and also bring the unique perspectives dictated by our market areas," added Dixon. To help network planners and end users in their decisions concerning transmission media, the FOLS regularly publishes information about glass optical fiber and its increasing use in the horizontal cabling portion of the LAN. Recent documents include a white paper, , a directory of market research reports available, a Fiber-to-the-Desk Suppliers Guide, and an organizational brochure. Information about FOLS is also available on the Internet, as part of the web site of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), http://www.tiaonline.org. The FOLS portion of the TIA site can be accessed directly at http://www.fols.org.
